On October 31, a round table “The role of gastronomic tourism in the development of domestic and inbound tourism” was organized by the Committee on Gastronomic Tourism of the Russian Union of Travel Industry. The session was attended by experts in the field of hospitality, representatives of the federal media and the academic community from all over the country – from
including from the Altai Territory, Amur Region, St. Petersburg, Vladimir region, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Moscow, the Republic of Buryatia, the Republic of Dagestan, Rostov region and other regions of Russia. The chairman of the Committee, concurrently the ICWAG President Mr. Leonid Gelibterman moderated the discussion.
Participants of the Round table discussed the systemic challenges faced by the gastronomic tourism, and their possible solutions. Particularly, the fate of the “Concept of Gastronomic Tourism Development in the Russian Federation until 2035”, developed by the members of the Committee. Participants of the discussion made a number of proposals, including elaborating a “Calendar of gastronomic events”, which take place throughout the country.
The issue of inbound tourism was raised by Mr. Shailesh Sharma, representative of India, member of the Committee on Gastronomic Tourism of the Russian Union of Travel Industry. He shared India’s experience in the development of gastronomic tourism and spoke on how Russia can become more attractive to tourists from India from the point of view of gastronomy.
