On September 17, Round table on the topic ‘Boom of Alcohol Markets in Russia: Prohibit impossible to be controlled’ was held at the ‘Komsomolskaya Pravda’ Publishing House. Mr. Leonid Gelibterman, ICWAG President, was invited to speak up at the discussion. He stated that a comprehensive approach should be used to combat alcoholism effectively. Among its key aspects are setting long-term and clear goals for the anti-alcohol campaign, defining key performance indicators (KPIs), using legal regulatory mechanisms along with enhancing the culture of alcohol consumption.
It is particularly beneficial to take into account the international experience in the sphere of regulating the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages, since complete bans and the introduction of the ‘dry law’ has always given rise to a dramatic increase in illegal trade turnover.
These days the World Health Organisation (WHO) and various countries implement pioneering methods of combating excessive alcohol consumption, including the promotion of healthy lifestyles and raising awareness about the consequences of alcohol consumption.
The round table was also attended by:
– Anzhelika Sulkhaeva, Deputy General Director of Komsomolskaya Pravda Media Group;
– Bijsultan Khamzaev, State Duma deputy, member of the Committee on Security and Corruption Control;
– Kirill Rodin, Director of government relations at VTsIOM;
– Alexander Moiseyev, Head of the Department of Strategic Directions of Rosalkogoltabakkontrol;
– Vladimir Ionkin, Deputy Director of the Retail Companies Association (ACORT)
– Daniil Petrov, Chief physician of Dr. Isaev's Clinic, narcologist;
– Vadim Drobiz, Director of the Center for Research of Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets.
