In July 2024, the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation together with the International Center of Wine and Gastronomy (ICWAG) established the Committee for the Protection of Natural Gastronomic Heritage. In accordance with the order of Mr. Vyacheslav Fetisov, Chair of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation, Mr. Leonid Gelibterman, ICWAG President and Director of the Center for Gastrodiplomacy of the IBS RANEPA, was appointed the Chairman of the Committee.
On 3 September 2024, the first organisational meeting of the Committee led by Mr. Leonid Gelibterman was held at the head office of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation in Moscow. The Committee includes more than 40 experts from 20 regions of Russia: scientists from leading Russian universities, representatives of the tourism business, restaurateurs, hoteliers, chefs, representatives of state authorities and journalists.
The following priority objectives have been set as part of the Committee's agenda:
– rendering comprehensive assistance to the environmentally friendly production of food and beverages;
– developing the appellation of origin and geographical indication system in the Russian regions with regard to food and beverages;
– contributing responsible regional producers of food and beverages to enter the markets of millionaire cities, as well as foreign markets;
– promoting environmentally friendly consumption in the public catering system and in households;
– enhancing gastronomic tourism.
The Committee Members supported the established priority tasks in the field of protection of natural gastronomic heritage of the Russian regions, and made several suggestions aimed at involving the younger generation in this activity. Specifically, a proposal to develop and promote additional educational programmes for children and adults was put on the agenda as well.
Among the upcoming events in which the Committee Members will take part effectively is the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the All-Russian Society for Nature Protection, which is going to be held on 30 November 2024 at the innovative site of the Lomonosov cluster in Moscow.
