Gastronomy development on the islands: summed the results of the foresight session “Raise the wave. Sakhalin”
From February 28 to March 1 a series of events dedicated to the development of local gastronomy industry was held within the foresight session “Raise the wave. Sakhalin” in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk city. The program was really intense and included open thematic discussions with experts from different regions of Russia and government representatives, as well as a master-class on cooking smelt and navaga dishes from the chef of northern cuisine Mr. Andrey Anikeev.
Mr. Leonid Gelibterman, the ICWAG President, took part in the meetings of the foresight session devoted to the role of gastronomy in the tourism sector, personnel education and training in the restaurant industry and the creation of an event-based local gastronomic calendar.
The Sakhalin Region is actively developing event tourism and is a pilot region of the global program “ProEdu po Rossii”, initiated by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and the Government of the Sakhalin Region. The project organizers, focused on promoting local gastronomy and inspired by the success of the project “Gastrocamp Sakhalin – 2024”, are willing to hold similar gastronomy events in the future and develop the region’s gastronomic brand. In particular, the international project “Gastrokamp” is planned to be held on the islands in 2025.
