Kaliningrad Street Food celebrates 10th anniversary

From 6 to 8 September 2024, Kaliningrad hosted the 10th Street Food City Picnic near the Royal Park. Street food projects from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Smolensk, Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and other Russian cities took part in the picnic, joining the Street Food Russia movement. There were also foreign participants from Belarus and Poland. The head of the Street Food Russia association Mr. Alexander Isaev has received an incredible number of congratulations and wishes from various regions of Russia, as well as directly from Mexico and Thailand.

Mr. Leonid Gelibterman, ICWAG President, traditionally headed the jury of the ‘Russian Street Food Awards’, a contest held during the festival: ‘10 years ago the festival in Kaliningrad was a small experiment of a group of street food enthusiasts. These days it is a major international festival that brings together eminent chefs from all over the country. Thanks to the festival, Kaliningrad has definitely become the street food capital of Russia and street food trendsetter’.

More than 50 projects took part in this year's competition. The winner in the main nomination was Sergey Miroshnikov (Miron) from Ekaterinburg. Sergey is one of the ideologists of the AUC (Authentic Urals Cuisine) movement. He presented a dish – ‘Shanga with trout and dill cucumbers’.

The winner in the Desserts nomination was Anastasia Avdashchinkova (Fyr-Fyr confectionery) from Smolensk with her dessert ‘Fox Ears’.

Several Kaliningrad projects became finalists of the competition. Ekaterina Kovalenko, project ‘Spices and Dad’, presented a combo of five types of pilaf; project ‘Bliny & Witches’ – perepechi with chanterelles and fried onions; project ‘Lobster Deli’ – pancakes with Kuril scallop. Another finalist of the contest is the ‘Arzamas Fire Goose’ project from Nizhny Novgorod, its competition dish is ‘Duet of Crispy Rogues with Volga Sterlet’.
