On January 28, the Publishing House “Komsomolskaya Pravda” hosted a round table dedicated to current trends in gastronomy and gastrodiplomacy. Among the speakers were representatives of federal and regional executive authorities, heads of leading Russian universities, hospitality industry experts, chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers.
“Possessing the vast gastronomic heritage from Chukotka and Kamchatka to Kaliningrad, the Russian Federation can take a more active and meaningful position on this issue. In particular through the creation of regional gastrodiplomacy centers,” opened the discussion the ICWAG President Mr. Leonid Gelibterman.
Gastronomy, at its core, is a science that studies the correlation between culture and food. It is often limited to culinary, but the meaning of gastronomy is much broader. On the one hand, it is the ability to sort out the tastes of food, an understanding of the subtleties of culinary art, as well as the skill of cooking delicious, exquisite dishes, on the other hand, gastronomy is closely related to the social sciences. Today, gastronomy is an area that has significant potential for influence and is an instrument of intercultural dialogue. During the discussion, the speakers discussed a wide range of issues from the creation of local centers for the study of gastronomic traditions to global marketing concepts, creative economics and gastrodiplomacy.
